5 Best Places To Paddle Board In Southern California
With Southern California being one of the top vacation spots in the United States and, also having some of the greatest beaches it definitely attracts the endless possibilities to explore and experience the ocean. Paddle Boarding has become a popular sport among tourists and locals throughout the beach cities. This definitely allow one to not only get a workout but to also potentially get face to face with local wildlife. Since paddle boarding is not always welcome to certain beaches (tide changes, animal preservation, etc...) I will go through all of my favorite spots along the coast that offer Paddle Boarding as an option to explore. What an excellent way to get a tan and enjoy the beautiful coastlines of Southern California!
1. Redondo Beach (King Harbor)
Head towards Los Angeles along the coast and you will hit the "South Bay" which accounts for the LA county beaches. Redondo Beach is a trending spot to mark on your map to take a paddle boarding adventure. From migrating whales, sting rays swimming along the ocean floor and baby crabs climbing onto your board, there is never a dull moment exploring Redondo Beach and its harbor. Quite frequently you will even spot sea lions relaxing on nearby docked boats in the harbor making it a frequent wildlife attraction. Due to the infrequency of the tide change it is always a smart choice to check the surf before going out depending on your paddle boarding experience.
2. Newport Beach (Back Bay)
If you are looking for a relaxing place to paddle board, Newport Beach is the place to be. With its calm waters it is perfect for beginners, or someone who is just wanting to learn the sport. They have beachfront paddle board rentals which makes for easy accessibility to customers who are just looking to try out the sport. If you are feeling a little adventurous local paddle board rentals offers night boards are hooked up with an LED light that allows you to explore the harbor and ocean life at night with a light guided journey.
3. Dana Point
Dana Point offers beautiful views and stunning sunsets while you are out on the ocean. Residing next to the Ritz Carlton, Dana Point has a vast majority of elegant places to visit, but also exciting outdoor activities to partake in. These activities include camping, picnicking, swimming, surfing, biking along the beach and even tide pools given the hour in which you arrive. With all of these options at hand Dana Point has definitely made its mark on the map as a popular tourist spot and paddle board destination in Southern California.
4. Mission Bay

5. Coronado
Coronado Island is also located in San Diego just about 15 minutes from the downtown area. It has four main beaches on the island, Central Beach, South Beach, Silver Strand State Beach and North Beach, these four beaches are all places in which you are allowed to take out your paddle board and offer easy access to paddle out. Silver Strand beach is a great spot for young children to learn how to paddle board or swim because of the on-duty lifeguard, it also offers on site showers which allow for an easy rinse off for your dirty/sandy paddle board. All four beaches are great spots to be for the scenery and also for a little rest and relaxation.
